Right click a empty area of the desktop and select Properties:

Next the Display menu box will open. Select the Settings tab:

The display Properties settings screen will appear, then you just move the Screen Area slider bar to the desired screen resolution (1024by768).

Click Apply then OK. You will then be prompted to keep these settings, click OK. The screen may go blank for a second or two whilst the new settings are configured. (With these settings there will be much more room on your desktop and when browsing you will see much more of the web page.)
